★★★★★ I don’t normally read fiction set in Bible times. I get the impression that the authors seem pinched or creatively restrained trying to make the story fit into an historical Biblical framework. The result is a bunch of trite words and sentences thinly strung together, culminating in a predictable outcome. ‘The Encounter’ had none of that. The stories were original, interesting, the characters captivating, honest, relatable. I thoroughly enjoyed the book, and, as with most good books, I couldn’t put it down and was sad it was over when I finished.
★★★★★ I really enjoyed this book! I love history and am especially fond of studying biblical times, so this book was a win-win for me. It was nice too. The story fits within the timeframe without feeling forced or overdone, if that makes sense. Many of the historical fiction I've read feels like they have to super-duper talk up the history of the setting, customs, etc., to where it feels irrelevant to the storyline. This author struck a perfect balance and left me genuinely sad at the end of the book... I wanted more!! Can't wait to read more from this author!!
